Course Enrollment#
The Graduate School considers full-time enrollment to be 9 credits per semester during the Fall and Spring semesters. Students funded under research assistantships during the Summer must register for GSSM S60-001 to maintain full-time status during the Summer term.
Students are required to maintain full-time student status for Fall and Spring semesters for a variety of reasons: visa eligibility, fellowships, assistantships, financial aid, external funding agencies, and CS department satisfactory progress requirements. See Satisfactory Progress – Academic Expectations for more information.
Enrollment Information for International Students#
International students have strict enrollment requirements and should consult with an advisor from the International Student Services office with questions about their visa regulations. The information we list here is generic and might be out of date. The rules below apply to graduate students on F-1 visas in the Computer Science Department.
International graduate students must be enrolled full time for the duration of their program. Full-time enrollment in the Graduate School is 9 credit hours. - The one exception to the full-time enrollment requirement is that students in their final semester may enroll at less than a full-time course load if they only need one or two courses to complete their program.
F-1 and J-1 students may count up to one online course (3 credits max) toward their full-time enrollment. - Courses that are listed as HyFlex CANNOT count toward the student’s full-time enrollment, but hybrid instruction mode can.
